Foresters 4-0 in MWC after Sweeps of Ripon and Lawrence

A week after posting 7-0 victories at home over Monmouth College and Illinois College, the Lake Forest College men's tennis team repeated the feat against Ripon College and Lawrence University on Saturday.

Forester junior Daniel Fotiev teamed up with freshman Tim Pasea on a 6-0 victory at #3 doubles and both players prevailed without dropping a game in singles as well, Pasea at #5 and Fotiev at #6. Freshman Zeke Bisharat and sophomore Joao Espindola also won at #3 and $4 singles, respectively, without dropping a game. Senior George Ciuca defeated the Red Hawks' top singles player 6-4, 6-0 and rolled 6-1 at #2 doubles with junior Bernardo Aguiar. Junior Rodrigo Cunha also won twice, knocking off his opponent 6-2, 6-1 at #2 singles and doubling up Ripon's #1 doubles team 6-3 with sophomore Felipe Moraes.

The doubles scores were similar against Lawrence. Bisharat and Fotiev blanking their counterparts 6-0 at #3 and Aguiar and Ciuca won 6-1 against at #2. The only change came at #1, where Moraes and Cunha edged out the Vikings' top duo 6-4.

Aguiar earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #2, Ciuca came out on top 6-1, 6-0 at #3, and the match was clinched when Cunha finished off his 6-2, 6-1 win at #4. Espindola took both sets 6-1 at #5, as did Pasea at #6, and the only narrow victory of the day came from Moraes at #1, where he outlasted his opponent 6-3, 6-7 (9-11), (10-6).

The victories were the eighth and ninth in a row for the Foresters, who have now matched the sixth-longest winning streak in program history. They also improved to 13-5 overall and 4-0 in Midwest Conference play this year. Ripon fell to 4-19 and Lawrence to 4-17 and both teams are now 0-3 in the league.

Lake Forest will travel to Iowa next Saturday to play at Grinnell College at 9:00 in the morning and Cornell College in the afternoon at 3:00. Both opponents are 4-0 in conference play so far this season.
