4/21/2026 1:36:00 PM

Lacrosse player Shannon Gibbons and track runner Brayden Long were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Gibbons scored the first and last goals of last Wednesday's 11-9 victory at Aurora University. The senior also had two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and eight draw controls in the game between two teams who had yet to lose in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

Lake Forest also hosted and defeated Cornell College 17-3 on Saturday with Gibbons scoring two more goals, assisting on three others, and leading all players in the contest with eight ground balls, three caused turnovers, and six draw controls.

Gibbons now ranks fourth in program history with 138 career draw controls and among the top 10 in team annals with 47 goals, 27 assists, 94 ground balls, and 52 caused turnovers during the last four seasons.

Long placed fifth out of 76 competitors overall and third among collegiate runners in the men's 100m at Wheaton College's Don Church Twilight Meet on Saturday. His time of 10.63 shattered the program record he had set the week before by four-tenths of a second. The sophomore also ran the third leg of the Foresters' 4x100m relay, which placed eighth.

In addition to being the fastest mark in school history, Long's 100m time is the best of any Midwest Conference runner this season and ranks tied-for-57th nationally.

Tuesday's Forester Athlete of the Week award was the first for Long and second for Gibbons, who also earned the honor on March 31.
