Softball player Kyla Chevalier and tennis player Joao Esipndola were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Chevalier batted .533 with at least one base hit in each of her team's six games last week. She was 4-for-5 with a double and a walk in Thursday's doubleheader at North Central College before going 2-for-5 at the plate both days as Lake Forest split two games at Beloit College on Saturday before sweeping Lawrence University at home on Sunday. She scored five runs, drove in eight, and posted a .650 on base percentage and .867 slugging percentage in the six games combined.
Sunday's second game included Chevalier's 26th career home run, tying her for second place in program history in that category.
Espindola turned in a clutch performance during the Foresters' 4-3 victory over #19 Grinnell College in the Midwest Conference Team Tournament final. After partnering with freshman Tim Pasea on a dramatic 7-6 (8-6) victory that secured the double point for his team, Espindola outlasted his #5 singles opponent 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the match and send Lake Forest to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in program history.
The other doubles matches in Friday's victory over Grinnell were done at least 20 minutes before Espindola and Pasea finished off their win and Espindola's singles match was the only one still going for nearly an hour before it was completed.
Tuesday's Forester Athlete of the Week award was the first for Espindola and fourth for Chevalier, who also earned the honor twice as a sophomore and once last year.
