USA Powerlifting held its Collegiate National Championships at the Pontchartrain Convention & Civic Center in Kenner, Louisiana, last weekend and Lake Forest College was represented.

Martius Bautista, a senior biology major, was sponsored by Forester Athletics and made his first appearance at the event.

Bautista's deadlift of 749.5 lbs. was the second-highest mark in the 242-pound division and, with a squat of 595.2 and bench of 369.2, he placed eighth out of 58 competitors in the division with a total of 1714.1 pounds.

Bautista has now participated in six powerlifting events over the last three years and his deadlift and overall total at the Collegiate Nationals were his best in those competitions.
