Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Foresters Triple Up Marian 12-4 on the Road

The Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team had 11 different players score in a 12-4 victory at Marian University Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Jackson Derosia was the only Forester with two goals and he added four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in the contest. Derosia's scores were back-to-back but 10 minutes apart in the second quarter and gave the visitors a 6-0 lead at halftime.

Among the other two Foresters with a goal was senior Brendan Herbert, whose tally early in the second quarter made him the program's all-time leader with 116 career goals. He had already surpassed John Casey for the top spot on the points list earlier this season and had been sharing the goals record with him for a few days since scoring for the 115th time as a Forester on Wednesday.

Two of Lake Forest's first three goals in the game came from defenders with junior LIam Bradley starting the scoring five minutes into the contest and sophomore Rowan Baringer adding to the team's 2-0 lead just 23 seconds into the second quarter. The other was scored by sophomore Wells Roney, who was assisted by Derosia.

After the Sabres finally got on the scoreboard a minute into the second half, the Foresters responded just 22 seconds later with senior long-stick midiflelder Evan Heitner's first of the year. He was assisted by sophomore Liam Smith, who accounted for the game's next goal himself. Sophomores John Shannon and Aidan Wigton and junior Carson Pagel added to the lead in the next five minutes and it was an 11-2 game after three quarters. WIgton's goal was his team-high 16th of the season while Shannon is next on the squad with 13.

After the home team netted two more goals in the fourth, sophomore Cory Cummins closed out the scoring with 18 seconds on the clock and became the 27th Forester to score at least once in the team's nine games this spring.

Lake Forest was dominant on faceoffs on Saturday posting the second-highest percentage in team history at .842. Senior Gabe Boston won all three in the first quarter before a violation gave the ball to Marian on the first of the second. Classmate John O'Reilly took and won the next four and freshman Jack Keeling went 9-2 the rest of the way. Keeling also led the Foresters and tied for game-high honors with five ground balls.

The Foresters also allowed the Sabres to be successful on just half of their 36 clearing attempts, out-shot them 48-22, and had a commanding 55-29 edge in ground balls.

Four different goalies saw action for Lake Forest with sophomore Billy Draper credited with his first career victory after stopping all three of Marian's shots on goal during his 18 minutes on the field.

The Foresters are now 5-4 overall and 4-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play while Marian remained without a win in six games, including four league contests.

Lake Forest will host Concordia University Wisconsin Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
