The Lake Forest College women's tennis team defeated Catholic University of America 6-1 in Hilton Head, South Carolina, on Friday.
The Foresters began the day by sweeping the doubles competition. Junior
Sofia Strupovets and sophomore
Lilli Dockal rolled 6-1 at #1 and the other two scores were much closer. Freshman
Anya Mookencherry and sophomore
Avelynn Wen came out on top 6-4 at #2 and junior
Kate Feist teams up with senior
Olivia Pandazi on a 7-5 triumph at #3.
The top three singles matches were out on the courts next and two were lopsided Lake Forest victories. Strupovets prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at the top spot in the lineup and Dockal 6-0, 6-2 at #2. Mookencherry took the first set 6-1 but dropped the second 6-4 at #3. She won the third set super tiebreaker 10-6 to clinch the match for the Foresters.
Wen bested her counterpart at #4 6-2, 6-0 and Feist followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at #5. The Cardinals earned their only point of the contest at #6.
Lake Forest improved to 13-2 on the year while Catholic fell to 4-7.
The Foresters will trave to Hope College next Friday for a 4:00 p.m. match.
