Thanks in part to three third set super tiebreaker victories, the Lake Forest College men's tennis team defeated Pfeiffer College 6-1 Wednesday evening in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The Foresters earned the doubles point after sophomore
Felipe Moraes and junior
Rodrigo Cunha did not drop a game at #1 and the #2 tandem of junior
Bernardo Aguiar and senior
George Ciuca came out on top 6-4.
Junior
Joao Espindola raised his singles record during the team's Spring Break trip to 3-0 with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at #5 and Lake Forest had a 3-0 lead after freshman
Tim Pasea finished off a 7-5, 6-2 victory at #6.Â
The Falcons earned their only team point at #3 singles and, after dropping the first set 7-5 to Forester freshman
Zeke Bisharat at #4, they took the second 6-3 to force a super tiebreaker. BIsharat trailed 6-4 before rattling off six straight points to clinch the Lake Forest win.
Matches at the top two singles positions also went to third set super tiebreakers. Aguiar eventually prevailed 4-6, 7-5, (10-6) at #2 and Moraes outlasted the best player in Pfeiffer's lineup 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (2-7), (12-10).
The Foresters evened their record this season at 5-5 while Pfeiffer fell to 8-2.
Lake Forest will close out the trip to Hilton Head against Catholic University Friday at 8:30 a.m. (ET).
