The Forester women's tennis team hosted and defeated Carthage College 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.
Lake Forest swept the doubles competition but all three matches were close. Junior
Sofia Strupovets and sophomore
Lilli Dockal prevailed 6-4 at the top spot in the lineup and the score was the same for freshman
Anya Mookencherry and sophomore
Avelynn Wen at #2. The margin of victory was even more narrow for juniors
Kate Feist and
Anika Kinnear as they needed a tiebreaker to edge out the Firebirds' #3 duo 7-6 (7-1).
Carthage's only point came at #6 singles and tied the contest at one. Strupovets took both sets 6-1 at #1 and Dockal won 6-4, 6-0 at #2. The clinching point came from a victory at #3 by Mookencherry, who dropped the first set 6-4 before doubling up her opponent 6-3 in the second and taking the third set super tiebreaker 10-4. We rolled 6-2, 6-3 at #4 and Feist finished off the match with a 6-2, 5-7, (11-9) triumph at #5.
The victory for the Foresters came in their first competition of the spring semester and raised their record on the season to 10-2. Carthage fell to 5-5.
Lake Forest's next three matches will be played in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Foresters first opponent during their Spring Trip will be the University of Rochester at 8:30 (ET) in the morning on Sunday, March 8.
