The 2026 Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet is being held this weekend at Grinnell College. The two-day meet began on Friday and the Foresters had several notable performances.
Highlighting the first day for Lake Forest was a victory for sophomore
Finn Gruver in the men's long jump. After fouling on each of his first two jumps, he jumped 6.66m (21' 10.25") in his final attempt of the trials and was ranked second in the field going into the finals. His leap of 6.80m (22' 3.75") in round one of the finals lifted him into the lead and turned out to be the winning jump.
Gruver is just the fourth Forester to capture a conference title since the program's rebirth in 2017-18 and the first to do so at an indoor championship meet.
Also scoring points for Lake Forest in an individual event was junior
Lettia Hoda, whose time of 5:19.62 in the women's mile was good for seventh place.
Three of the Foresters' four relays on Friday posted times that rank them among the top three in program history. Freshman
Brayden Long, sophomore
Alex Pavlov, senior Patrck Cadiz, and junior
Ollie Francis finished the men's sprint medley relay in sixth place and now rank second in team annals with a time of 3:39.07. In the women's race sophomores
Farah Tawfik,
Andrea Fernandez, and
Stella Abernethy were joined by senior
One Kenosi. They were seventh in the race and rank third in team annals at 4:46.35. Tawfik, Kenosi,Fernandez, and senior
Jacquelyn Han were eighth in the women's 4x200m relay are are now second in school history at 1:55.97.
Friday's competition also included the trials of the 60m and 60m hurdles and three Lake Forest hurdlers advanced to Saturday's finals. junior
Payton Ross (8.59) and freshman
Christopher Yoon (8.66) were third and fourth on the men's side while Han, the only hurdler the women's team has ever had, turned in a career-best time of 10.30 seconds to rank sixth in the field.
In addition to the 60m and 60m hurdle finals, Saturday's competition on the track includes the 200m, 400m, 800m, and 3000m, as well as the distance medley and 4x400m relays. Saturday's only field event with Foresters in it is the triple jump.
