The 2026 Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet is being hosted by Cornell College this weekend and Friday's opening day of competition included a title for one of the Foresters.
Lake Forest sophomore
Finn Gruver, who finished first in the league in the men's long jump at the MWC Indoor Track and Field Championships in February, won the event again on Friday with a leap of 6.76m (22' 2"). The runner-up's best jump was less that three inches shorter than Gruver's. Forester freshman
Christopher Yoon also earned a point for his team in the event with an eighth-place mark of 6.35m (20' 10").
Yoon was also one of two Foresters to qualify for the finals in the 110m hurdles. His time of 15.82 seconds ranked seventh in the field and would have been a program record had junior
Payton Ross not finished his prelim heat in 15.63, which ranks fifth going into Saturday's final.
Two other Lake Forest runners qualified for finals on Friday, including freshman
Brayden Long, whose 10.65 seconds in the men's 100m is the second-fastest time in the field and school record clocking of 21.93 seconds in the 200m ranked third in Friday's prelims.
Like Ross in the 110m hurdles, sophomore
Liam Foo broke his own record in the 400m hurdle prelims with a time of 58.70 seconds. That was good for seventh in the field, giving him a spot in Saturday's final.
Additional performances of note on Friday included junior
Zoe Pavlu moving into the top five in team history in the women's 100m and junior
Jennifer Guerrero and freshman
Rylie Almoradie improving on the program's third-place standing in the women's shot put and long jump, respectively.
Saturday's events will begin at 10:30 a.m.
