Foresters Drop Playoff Series Opener at Nation's Fourth-Ranked Team

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team began its Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup Playoff quarterfinal series with a 6-2 loss Friday afternoon at Adrian College, the fourth-ranked team in the nation.

The Bulldogs took the lead at the 10:56 mark of the opening period and added two more tallies in the second and two more early in the third.

Sophomore forward Max Jaldung got the visitors on the scoreboard at the 14:37 mark of the final period. All 10 skaters on the ice were in a small area in front of the Adrian goal and multiple Foresters attempted shots before the puck came out to Jaldung in the left circle. He fired a shot into the right side of the net to reach double figures in goals in his first season at the College.

Jaldung earned an assist just 65 seconds later when senior forward Chase Freiermuth scored the only power play goal of the game. Jaldung's shot from the top of the right circle was tipped in by Freiermuth, who raised his season goal total to five.

Adrian ended Lake Forest's comeback bid with a score just 58 seconds later, making it a 6-2 game with 3:20 on the clock.

The home team had a 42-19 advantage in shots on goal and won 36 of 64 faceoffs in the contest.

The loss dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 6-18-2 while Adrian improved to 19-6-1.

The team teams will face off again at Adrian in game two of the series Saturday afternoon at 2:00 (ET). Lake Forest needs a victory in that contest and another in the ensuing 20-minute minigame to advance in the league playoffs.
