Track runner Lettia Hoda and swimmer Matthew Strada were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Hoda won the mile at Saturday's Red Hawk Invite at Ripon College. The junior's career-best time of 5:16.55 was the best in the 38-runner field and improved her standing as the second-fastest runner in program history in that event. She also finished eighth in the 800m later in the meet and her career-best time in that event (2:29.18) strengthened her fourth-place spot in team annals.
With two weekends of competition before the MWC Indoor Championship Meet at the end of the month, Hoda ranks eighth in the league in the mile and 11th in the 800m.
Strada was victorious three times as Lake Forest rolled 147-31 against Beloit and edged out host St. Norbert 113-100 on Saturday. The sophomore started his day by winning the 1000-freestyle by 53 seconds and setting a pool record in the event with a time of 10:06.47. He also touched the wall first in the 100-IM in 55.77 seconds before contributing to a meet-clinching three-tenths-of-a-second victory in the 200-freestyle relay.
It was the team's final competition before the MWC Championships February 19-22. Strada currently ranks second in the league in the 200-IM, third in the 1650-freestyle, and fifth in the 400-IM.
Tuesday's Forester Athlete of the Week award was the third for Hoda, who also earned it in cross country on November 4 and once during last year's indoor track and field season. Strada is now a two-time honoree with the first coming in November of 2024.
