Lola Halsband's first five-point game of her career pushed Lake Forest women's soccer to a six-goal victory over Monmouth.
The Foresters dominated the early stretch of the game, with three corners and five shots in the first 10 minutes. In the 12th minute,
Maggie Balas touched a ball across to
Keighan Whitlock, who fired the ball into the bottom-left corner to give the Foresters a 1-0 lead. Lake Forest continued to press as
Lola Halsband found a rebound in the 25th minute that she put home to make the score 2-0. The senior now has 11 career points in four matches against the Fighting Scots.
Two minutes after the Halsband goal, she set up
Annabelle Schroeder off a corner kick to add to the Foresters' lead.
Ella Lubarsky was inches away from adding a fourth at the half-hour mark, forcing a save from the Monmouth goalkeeper.
Halsband continued to be involved in the offense for Lake Forest, as she delivered a cross in the 34th minute that found the foot of
Bella Rivera, who had her shot deflected by the Fighting Scots as it traveled into the back of the net. Now up by four goals, Halsband kept finding offensive opportunities for the Foresters. A 36th-minute feed to
Lily VanPelt made the score 5-0, and Lake Forest went into the halftime break in control. The Foresters out-shot the Fighting Scots 20-1 at the end of the first 45 minutes.
The second half saw more of the same from the two sides. Lake Forest controlled possession as Whitlock forced a save out of a new Monmouth goalkeeper in the second half. In the 60th minute,
Veronica Presberg rolled a free kick past the entire Fighting Scots backline and found
Gianna Logue running at the back post. The captain calmly dispatched the ball into the net for her third goal of the season.
Lake Forest was inches away from a seventh, as
Sophia Key lifted a ball in the 77th minute over the Monmouth backline before
Ella Chicone dragged a shot inches wide of the right post. The game concluded with a 6-0 score, as
Sara Swenson and
Maddie Geasey each made one save on the way to another combined clean sheet.
Lake Forest women's soccer is back in action on Saturday, taking on Grinnell. Kickoff from Farwell Field is set for 1:30 p.m., as part of the college's Alumni and Community Day celebration.
