Foresters Lead Twice in 2-2 Draw with Grinnell

Lake Forest women's soccer allowed two second half goals to Grinnell as the Foresters drew 2-2 with the Pioneers.

The Foresters controlled the early minutes of the first half. Lola Halsband, coming off a five-point game against Monmouth, had a shot in the first three minutes that the Grinnell goalkeeper saved. After a Pioneers player committed a foul in the box, Veronica Presberg stepped up to the penalty spot and scored to put the Foresters up 1-0. The sophomore has converted on both of her penalty kick attempts this season.

Lake Forest continued to dominate the run of play in the first half. Ella Chicone took two shots in the 27th and 29th minutes, but could not find a second for the Foresters. She forced another save in the final minute of the first half, as Lake Forest led 1-0 at the break.

The visitors came out of the break with speed, firing a shot one minute into the second half. Grinnell found a breakthrough in the 50th minute, placing a shot into the bottom right corner that hit the post and traveled over the goal line.

Four minutes later, the Foresters retook the lead. Halsband and Sophia Key worked together on the right to fire in a cross that found the head of Maggie Balas, who powered the ball home to make the score 2-1. In the 65th minute, the Pioneers took a shot from outside of the box that snuck under the crossbar, bringing the game level again.

After the equalizer, the visitors held on to momentum. Lake Forest found its way back into the game as Chicone entered back in for the final 15 minutes. However, the Foresters could not score again as the game finished in a 2-2 draw.

Lake Forest women's soccer remains at home on Oct. 17, hosting Beloit. Kickoff at Mohr Field is set for 1:30 p.m.
