The Lake Forest College women's volleyball team prevailed 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 at Beloit College Tuesday night in the first Midwest Conference match of the season for both schools.
The Foresters trailed in the opening set until a 6-point run gave them a 12-8 advantage. The Buccaneers got no closer than two points the rest of the way and kills by
Simisola Osinaike and
L'Rae White finished off the set.
The score in set two was tied 11 times, the last at 14, before Lake Forest took control with a 9-2 run. The home team won the next three points before a Beloit service error and ace by
Lilly Robinson closed it out.
The Foresters took the first three points in set three and never relinquished the lead. The Bucs recorded a pair of 5-point runs with the first making the score 14-12 and the second 24-22 but a service error ended their hope for a comeback.
Alivia Barker led Lake Forest with 10 kills while
Elise Kelley was next with nine. Kelley did not commit an attack error and finished the contest with a .563 hitting percentage while adding three aces and five digs.
Robinson tallied 23 assists, served up four aces, and also recorded five digs on the night.
Alisa Kevric led the visitors in digs with nine.
The victory evened Lake Forest's overall record on the season at 8-8. Beloit fell to 4-7 overallÂ
The Foresters will continue league play with a pair of matches at home this weekend. They will host Lawrence University Friday night at 7:00 and Ripon College at 1:00 the next afternoon.
