Foresters Defeated by Prairie Fire

The Lake Forest women's basketball team couldn't find a rhythm at home Saturday, as the Foresters fell to Knox College, 73-45.

Sara Mills led the Foresters (2-10, 0-3 MWC) with 10 points and added eight rebounds and three steals. Mills, who entered the game shooting 1-of-13 from behind the three-point line, went 2-for-2 from distance.

Anika Kinnear provided seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds. After setting a new career high with nine rebounds Tuesday against Simpson College, Kinnear was all over the glass again on Saturday. The junior hauled in 10 rebounds in the first half alone Saturday, ending the game with 12 boards.

Rylie Crecelius chipped in eight points and four rebounds, and Ella Franck scored five points in less than three minutes of game action for Lake Forest.

The Foresters shot 25.4 percent from the field for the game, making 4-of-27 three-pointers, and hitting 9-of-15 from the free-throw line.

Lake Forest forced the Knox offense into 20 turnovers for the game; that is the most turnovers the Foresters' defense has forced in a game so far this season.

Knox was able to jump out to a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 38-22 at halftime. Lake Forest shot just 23.5 percent in the first half, including 4-of-14 from the three-point line, and 2-of-6 from the free-throw line.

The Foresters fought all the way until the end of the game, outscoring the Prairie Fire 14-7 in the fourth quarter. The Lake Forest defense held Knox to just 2-of-13 (15.4 percent) shooting in the final frame.

The Foresters will remain at home for their next contest, as Lake Forest hosts Illinois College on Wednesday night. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
