The Forester men's golf team placed eighth out of 15 programs at the three-round Minnesota Golf Classic over the weekend. The event was played at Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain, Minnesota.
On the strength of a career-best opening round, sophomore
Tyler Poker was Lake Forest's top finisher at the event. He opened with a 1-under 71 that featured four birdies and added a 76 and a 77 in the next two rounds. Poker tied for 39th place in the 109-player field with a final score of 224 (+8).
Junior
Tyler Wengronowitz finished just a shot behind Poker and tied-for-45th overall after sandwiching a 77 between a pair of 74s. He had seven birdies over the course of the weekend and recorded an eagle on the 501-yard, par-5 first hole in the final round.
Sophomore
Nate Choi, junior
Tyler Schick, and freshman
Jack Lee each birdied that same hole during the last round and finished the tournament with scores of 231, 233, and 236, respectively.
Gustavis Adolphus College won the event with a three-round total of 870, which was six shots better than runner-up and tournament host Bethel University. The Foresters' 912 was the fourth-lowest three-rpound total in team history and left them five shots behind seventh-place University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and two ahead of ninth-place University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Lake Forest will compete in Eau Claire's Frank Wrigglesworth Invitational next Monday and Tuesday.
