The Lake Forest College women's volleyball team took on the Carthage College Firebirds and the Aurora University Spartans in the Forester Invitational on Saturday.

In the first match of the day the Firebirds won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-16. In the third set, the home team came out hot and led 7-4 before Carthage went on a five-point run to pull ahead for good. The Foresters cut the deficit to 16-13, but once again the visitors went on a six-point run and ended up winning the set 25-16 and taking the match.

Leading Lake Forest in kills was junior Meghan Winton with six while senior Ireland Van Stone chipped in with four kills and five digs. Senior Lily Robinson tallied 15 assists in the match.

The second contest of the day featured an epic battle in the opening set. It was back-and-forth the entire set and Lake Forest had a set point opportunity at 24-22 but Aurora stayed alive and took the lead 25-24. Facing defeat themselves, Van Stone had a kill to tie the score at 25 a piece, but eventually the visitors prevailed 27-25.

Aurora took the second set 25-6 and the third set was another great battle. Once again facing defeat, Aurora kept it going and both teams went back and forth to tie at 28. Aurora pulled away with the final two points and won the set 30-28.
