The Lake Forest College women's volleyball team hosted the Lake Forest Tri on Saturday and battled the Eagles of Benedictine University and the Blue Jays of Elmhurst University.
In the first match of the day against Benedictine, the away team took the opening set 25-13. In the second set Lake Forest broke a 7-7 tie and never trailed again in the 25-17 victory. The Foresters came out firing in set three, took a 5-0 lead early on, and won it 25-21. Tied at 24 in set four, Lake Forest rattled of the final two points to take the set and claim their first win of the season.
Senior
Lilly Robinson recorded a career high 36 assists in the victory. Fellow senior
Ireland Van Stone chipped in with a double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs. Junior
Meghan Winston had a match-high 17 kills while freshman
Rio Dirksen added 13. Â
Lake Forest took on Elmhurst in the final match of the day. The Foresters started off hot and were ahead 13-6, but the Blue Jays battled back and eventually took the opening set 25-18. The home team was up 22-20 in the second but once again Elmhurst fought back and eventually took the set 25-22. Elmhurst closed out the match by winning the third set 25-17. Simisola Osinaike had match high four blocks apiece
. Dirksen also had 13 kills.
The Foresters (1-6) take the court again next Thursday when they travel to River Forest, Illinois, to take on the Concordia University Chicago Cougars.
