Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Foresters Open Season with 4-0 Shutout of Saint Mary’s

The Lake Forest College men's soccer team started its 2025 campaign with a dominant 4-0 victory over Saint Mary's University Saturday afternoon at Farwell Field.

The Foresters grabbed the lead in the 29th minute when senior Gio Diaz netted the first goal of the season off an assist from junior Nathan Kostovetsky. Less than seven minutes later, junior forward Peter Cirbo doubled the lead with a strike of his own. Cirbo then converted from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute, sending Lake Forest into halftime with a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Lake Forest added one more early in the second half when junior Ollie Francis found the back of the net in the 50th minute to extend the lead to 4-0. From there, the Foresters controlled possession and tempo to secure the shutout win.

The home side held an 18-9 advantage in shots, including nine on goal, and earned three corner kicks. The defense was sharp throughout, limiting Saint Mary's to just three shots on target, all of which were stopped to preserve the clean sheet.

With the win, Lake Forest improved to 1-0-0 overall, while Saint Mary's dropped to 0-1-0. The Foresters will return to action on Wednesday night when they host Benedictine University at 7:00 p.m. at Farwell Field.
