Day one of the 2025 Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Cahampionships was Friday and a victorious effort in the men's shot put was one of several program record-breaking performances for Lake Forest College.
Sophomore
Michael Kasemervisz had already broken his own school record but still trailed the leader by an inch before his final attempt. He then launched the 16-pound shot 50' 6.25" to take the lead and eventually claim the program's first individual conference title in seven years.
Six additional team records were broken or tied on Friday, including two each by juniors
AJ Jones and
One Kenosi. Jones improved on her own record in the 100m and her time of 12.45 seconds was the third-fastest at the meet, qualifying her for Saturday's final. She will also be running the 200m on Saturday after ranking fourth in the field and turning in another program-best time of 25.69 seconds. Kenosi finished her 400m prelim in 1:01.35, nearly two seconds faster than the record she already owned, and also qualified for Saturday's final. In addition, she made her debut in the long jump and tied the team record of 4.55m (14' 11.25").
The other two program records came from sophomore
Payton Ross and senior Matthrew Lungu, who surpassed their own marks in the men's 110m high hurdles and 400m, respectively.. Ross ranked fourth in the field and qualified for Saturday's final with a time of 15.92 seconds. Lungu narrowly missed making it to the final, ranking ninth in a career-best 50.06 seconds.
Junior
Jacquelyn Han reached the finals in two events, ranking fifth in the women's 100m hurdles (16.67 seconds) and seventh in the 400m hurdles (1:12.33).
In addition to the finals in the finals athletes qualified for on Friday, Saturday's schedule also includes the 3000m steeplechase, 800m, 500m, and 4x100m and 4x400m relays on the track. Field events featuring Foresters on the second and final day of the meet include the triple jump, women's shot put and javelin, and men's discus.
