The Lake Forest College women's golf team traveled to Rock Island, Illinois, this weekend and posted an eight-shot victory in Augustana College's Viking Classic.
The Foresters led the tournament by seven strokes after a 313, the third-lowest score in school history, in Saturday's opening round. Sunday's 325 also ranks among the program's top 15 rounds and the 36-hole total of 638 ranks second in team annals. The host school was second in the seven-team field at 646.
Lake Forest also had the event's individual champion in junior
Gabrielle Krebs, who made plenty of history along the way. She had nine birdies on the weekend and her 4-over 148 broke the 36-hole program record she already owned by two strokes. Her 73 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday rank among the 12 best rounds in team history and she now owns eight of the performances on that list. Krebs also set a school record with a scoring average of 79.07 on the season.
Freshman
Libby Hearst fired a 78 and classmate
Amanda Adley a 79 on Friday and both players finished Saturday's round at 83. They combined for a dozen birdies on the weekend and placed tied-for-eighth and 10th, respectively, out of 42 players in the tournament.
ForesterÂ
Alijah Campbell completed her two rounds in 167 shots to finish in a tie for 15th place and fellow junior
Ashlyn Bhatia was tied-for-23rd at 175.
Senior
Emma Ackland closed out her career with scores of 99 and 97 over the weekend.
The Foresters victory was their fourth of the year and they finished the season with a scoring average of 328.18, a team record by nearly 10 shots per round.
