Lacrosse player Abby Meyer and golfer Tyler Wengronowitz were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Meyer was successful all over the field as Lake Forest defeated visiting Aurora University 13-8 on Wednesday and prevailed 14-9 at Cornell College on Saturday to clinch at least a share of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title. The senior midfielder led all players in Wednesday's game with a career-high eight draw controls, scored a pair of goals, and added four ground balls and four caused turnovers. She also finished Saturday's contest with a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists, tied for game-high honors with four caused turnovers, and chipped in with four ground balls and three draw controls.
On Saturday Meyer also became just the fourth player in the program's four-year history to surpass 100 career ground balls and she ranks third in team history with 116 draw controls, fourth with 65 caused turnovers, and sixth with 58 goals and 73 points.
Wengronowitz was the individual champion at Friday and Saturday's Forester Spring Invite. The sophomore tied the second-best round in program history with a 4-under 68 on Friday and his 6-under 66 on Saturday tied the team record. His 36-hole total of 134 is the best in school history by four strokes and Lake Forest's runner-up two-day score of 564 is 19 shots better than the previous team record. Of the 18 holes on the Prairie Course of Mundelein's Countryside Golf Club, Wengronowitz birdied 11 of the them during the tournament while recording just one bogey in each round.
Wengronowitz's current scoring average of 73.47 is well below the current program record of 74.80 and his performance at the Forester Spring Invite was his third consecutive top-10 finish and fifth in 10 events this season.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by a vote of athletic department staff on Tuesdays. Meyer also earned the award during her freshman year in lacrosse and as a junior during the hockey season. Wengronowitz is also a three-time honoree, having been selected two weeks ago and on October 1.
