The Lake Forest College men's golf team hosted the Annual Forester Spring Invite at nearby Countryside Golf Club on Friday and Saturday. The home team fielded a pair of five-men squads who placed second and tied-for-ninth in the 20-team event.
Forester sophomore
Tyler Wengronowitz was the individual champion and broke the school record by four strokes with a two-round score of 134 (-10). After tying the second-best round in program history with a 68 on Friday, he matched the 63-year-old team record with a 66 on Saturday. He birdied 11 of the 18 holes in at least one of the two rounds and had just two bogeys on the weekend.
Lake Forest also shattered the program's 36-hole record as a team, finishing 19 shots better than the previous mark with a score of 564. The Foresters' 281 on Friday is the second-best round in program history while Saturday's 283 ranks third. They finished just three shots behind Aurora University, the nation's sixth-ranked team on the NCAA's official golf scoring database.
With back-to-back rounds of 1-under 71, Lake Forest freshman
Nate Choi tied for 10th place in the 108-player field. He turned in eight birdies on the weekend and his 36-hole total of 142 tied the fifth-best mark in team annals.
Sophomore
Tyler Schick made it three Foresters at or below par after playing Friday's round in one shot over and Saturday's one under. He tied for 15th overall and his 144 ranks eighth in team history.
Seniors
Luke Duffer and
Chris Petri each contributed Lake Forest's score on one of the two days. Duffer had just one bogey during his career-best round of 69 on Friday and his final score of 146 put him in a tie for 26th place in the field. Petri was better on Saturday with a 75 and his final score was 154.
The Foresters' second team turned in back-to-back rounds of 298 (+10) and was led by freshman
Brady Green, who posted a 2-under 70 on Friday and a final score of 1-over 145. He tied for 19th place overall while junior
Ben Shamberg's 74 and 75 had him tied for 42nd.
Sophomore
Alexander Rohlf was three shots over par both days to finish in the top half of the field. After recording matching rounds of 79 on Friday, Junior
Evan Dybas and freshman
Tyler Poker carded a 73 and 76, respectively, on Saturday.
Lake Forest will compete in Millikin University's Take Back the Night Challenge next Friday and Saturday before traveling to Edinburg, Indiana, for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament May 4-6.
