The Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team surrendered the first four goals of the game and eventually fell by the same margin in an 11-7 loss to visiting University of Dubuque on Saturday.
Forester junior
Gabe Boston ended the game-opening run of goals but the visitors struck again just before the end of the first quarter to take a 5-1 lead into the second. Two more scores from Dubuque were followed by one from Lake Forest sophomore
Macklin Thomas with 90 seconds to play in the half, making the score 7-2 at the break.
Thomas scored twice and freshman
John Shannon once in the third quarter as the Foresters closed to within three but back-to-back Spartan goals to close out the period restored their five-goal advantage going into the fourth.
The margin reached six before Thomas netted his fourth of the day and freshman
Aidan Wigton finished off the scoring with 11:55 remaining.
Senior
Conor Murphy finished with a game-high six caused turnovers and led Lake Forest with six ground balls. Classmate
Jack Gillard added three of each.
The teams combined for 76 shot attempts and the goalkeepers made 31 saves, including a season-high 16 for Forester senior
Andrew Widlar.
Both teams are now 7-6 overall and 6-2 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.
The Foresters will travel to Aurora University next Wednesday to take on the league's first-place team at 7:00 p.m.
