In a match that featured several tiebreakers, the Lake Forest College women's tennis team came out on top 4-3 against Carthage College at Life Sport Athletic Club in Racine, Wisconsin, on Sunday.
The first tiebreaker decided the doubles point as sophomores
Kate Feist and
Anika Kinnear defeated the Firebirds' #3 duo 7-6 (7-5). Carthage had already won at #2 and sophomore
Sofia Strupovets and freshman
Lilli Dockal had tripled up Carthage's best 6-2.
Dockal rolled 6-1, 6-0 at #2 singles and fifth-year
Margaret Bugnacki took both sets 6-1 at #3. After a Firebird victory at #5 made the team score 3-1, Strupovets came back to win 2-6, 6-1, (10-5) at the top spot in the lineup to clinch the match. Third set super tiebreakers were also needed to decided contests at #4 and #6 and Carthage came out on top in both cases.
Lake Forest improved to 13-4 on the season while Carthage fell to 8-6.
The Foresters will be in action again next Sunday against Augustana College. The contest is scheduled to take place on campus and will begin at 1:30 p.m.
