The Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team took control early in the game and cruised to a 17-7 victory at Beloit College on Saturday.
Forester junior
Brendan Herbert and sophomore
Andrew Koch recorded hat tricks with all three of Herbert's goals coming in the first period and Koch's in the second. The Foresters accounted for the game's first seven goals before allowing the final tally of the opening period.
Senior
John Casey scored twice in the first quarter and freshman
Aidan Wigton netted one in the first and another in the second. Koch's final two scores were man-up goals just 15 seconds apart and put Lake Forest on top 13-3 at halftime.
The third quarter featured the first career goals for freshman
Cory Cummins and sophomore
AJ Lenz and the first of the season for senior
Max Guyott. Sophomore
Owen O'Connor added his first collegiate score in the fourth.
Junior
Gabe Boston was won all nine of his face-offs while classmate
John O'Reilly was 7-for-9 and senior
Carson Kennally 7-for-10 on the day.
The Foresters had a 54-22 advantage in ground balls with senior
Conor Murphy leading the visitors with five. Murphy also had a team-high three caused turnovers as Lake Forest took advantage of 28 Buccaneer miscues while committing just 14.
All five of the Foresters' goalies saw action in the contest with senior
Andrew Widlar getting the start. He did not see a shot on goal in nearly 12 minutes on the field. Freshman
Billy Draper led the group in saves with four in a little more than 12 scoreless minutes.
Lake Forest is now 4-4 overall this season and 3-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. Beloit fell to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the league.
The Foresters will host Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday on Mohr Field Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
