The Lake Forest women's basketball team fell behind early on Saturday against Grinnell College and could not recover in a 71-45 loss on the road.
Â
The Foresters (4-17, 2-10 MWC) shot 31.5 percent from the field, 27.8 percent from three-point range, and 75 percent from the free-throw line.
Â
Lake Forest was led by 11 points and eight rebounds from senior
Rebecca Christodoulou. After scoring 30 points in the first meeting against the Pioneers, Christodoulou was held below her season average.
Â
Center
Peyton Noles added 10 points in just 16 minutes of play, and Ariana Torralba hit a trio of three-pointers to accumulate nine points.
Â
It was the Foresters' slow start offensively that put them in an early deficit. Lake Forest made its first shot attempt, a made layup from Noles, however the Foresters would struggle from there. Lake Forest missed its next 12 shots in the opening quarter as Grinnell built a 22-4 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Â
The deficit proved too much to overcome, as the Foresters would not get closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Â
Lake Forest will return home after three consecutive road games for its next contest, as the Foresters will take on Lawrence University at the Sports and Recreation Center on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
