Rylie Crecelius was the Foresters' primary scoring option off the bench with six points on 3-of-5 shooting in only nine minutes of play.
Â
Lake Forest (4-18, 2-11 MWC) was plagued by inconsistent shooting offensively and turnovers hurt the Foresters. The Foresters shot 26.9 percent from the field and 3-of-16 from three-point range; in addition, Lake Forest committed 24 turnovers for the game.
Â
The Foresters struck first to open the game behind their senior leader Christodoulou. The team's leading scorer opened the scoring with a strong right-handed drive to convert a layup plus the foul and give Lake Forest the early 3-0 lead.
Â
The Forester advantage was short-lived, as the Lawrence offense found its rhythm. The Vikings ended the opening frame on an 18-5 run to push its advantage to double digits at the end of the first quarter. Â
Â
Christodoulou responded and hit a three-pointer and a layup – both assisted by Ariana Torralba – within the first minute of the second quarter to keep the deficit within single digits. However, the Foresters would miss their next 12 shots in the quarter and shot just 14.3 percent from the field in the second quarter, as Lawrence built its lead to 40-19 at halftime.
Â
In the fourth quarter, freshman
Skylar Thompson scored her first points of the season on her first career shot attempt, making a layup off of a feed from junior
Sara Mills.
Â
The Foresters will return to action at the Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday against Illinois College at 1 p.m.
