Both Forester Teams Finish Third at MWC Championships

2/23/2025 7:37:00 PM

Three event titles and a pair of school records highlighted the Lake Forest College swimming and diving team's performance on Sunday as the 2025 Midwest Conference Championship Meet came to a close. The Forester women and men each placed third in the team standings.

Sunday's final session began with Lake Forest sweeping the 1650-freestyle. Junior Amelie Andres won the women's race in 17:51.93 and sophomore Gavin Biccum successfully defended his title on the men's side with a time of 16:07.42. While Biccum's final time was less than a second off the program record he set a season ago, his 1000 split of 9:39.86 is a new school record.

The fast heat in the women's 1650 also included freshman Abigail Atwell finishing fifth and sophomore Zoe Feldblum ninth.

Sophomore Audrey Kilmer turned in the Foresters' third consecutive victory when she touched the wall first in the women's 200-backstroke for the second year in a row. Her time of 2:05.31 ranks her fourth in team history. Senior Caprice Kalvelage was seventh in the same race. Although the winning streak ended in the men's race, senior Noah McAdam's time of 1:51.25 ranks him second in program history, just .11 off the record.

Junior Demetri Zemenides was the only Lake Forest to qualify for the A-final in the 100-freestyle, where he placed eighth in 47.20 seconds. His 47.03 in the prelims, however, ranked fifth in team annals until junior Alexander Wilson won the evening's B-final in 46.61 seconds, which temporarily moved him into second place on the program's all-time list.

Senior Tucker Potts posted a time of 2:08.27 to finish fourth in the 200-breaststroke and junior Andrew Lee was not far behind, placing sixth in 2:11.60.

Freshman Isabella Rozenbergas was the runner-up in the women's 200-butterfly in 2:10.17. Her 2:08.49 in the prelims, however, improved her standing as the third-fastest Forester female to ever swim the event. Senior Michelle Paddon-Jones was fourth in the race in 2:11.15. There were also a pair of Lake Forest swimmers in the men's A-final, where sophomore Clayton Berg was fourth in 1:56.74 and senior Ben Jacob seventh in 2:00.78.

The final even of the meet brought more historic performances and runner-up finishes for the Foresters. KIlmer, Rozenbergas, Sylvie Paddon-Jones, and Valeria Welk recorded the second-fastest 400-freestyle relay time in team history at 3:33.26. The men's quartet of McAdam, Scott, Wilson, and Zemenides followed with a school record time of 3:06.17. McAdam's leadoff split of 46.33 seconds also edged out Wilson's time from earlier in the day and ranks second in team history in the 100-freestyle.

Both Lake Forest teams finished third in the standings behind champion and host Grinnell College and second-place St. Norbert College.

After winning a pair of individual events with meet record times and finishing second in Sunday's 200-butterfly, Rozenbergas was named MWC Women's Swimmer of the Year. Her clocking in Saturday's 100-butterfly was also an NCAA B-cut, although she recorded a faster time earlier in the season and will wait to see if it was enough for her to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships next month.

The Foresters also had both Elite 20 Award winners in Berg and Kalvelage with the latter earning the honor for the third year in a row.
