Preliminary matches were played on Wednesday and Thursday and the divisional brackets for the 2025 U.S. Handball Association National Collegiate Championships are now set.
Three Foresters in the Women's Open Singles bracket highlights the team's performance so far at the event. Freshman
Jodie Keeling and sophomore
Emma Kinane were seeded third and fifth, respectively, and prevailed Wednesday evening to secure their spots in the top division. Junior
Audrey Peters was defeated by the top seed before earning her way into the Open with a 21-11, 21-15 triumph on Thursday.
The other three women on the team, junior
Arielle Augustyn, sophomore
Miley Ashby, and freshman
Satoe Tohi, split their preliminary matches and will compete in B Singles. Augustyn's victory came on Wednesday and the other two on Thursday with Satoe winning in a tiebreaker.
Lake Forest's top player on the men's side is senior
Zach Dybal, who also split his preliminary matches and will be playing in the A1 Singles bracket.
The only Foresters to go 2-0 during the first two days of the tournament were freshman
Luca Zenati-Parsons and sophomore
Jacob Emold. Zenati-Parsons climbed into the B3 Singles Division while Emold ended up in C2.
Junior
Gota Akagiri started the tournament with a tiebreaker victory and will be joined by freshman
Ayush Sharma in the Men's C4 Singles bracket.
In doubles action Kinane and Peters are in pursuit of their second consecutive national title and came out on top 15-6, 1-0 in their quarterfinal match on Thursday. Zenati-Parsons and Emold are also through to the semifinal round in the Men's C Doubles Division after a tiebreaker win in their second match of the day. Doubles play will continue on Saturday.
Friday's competition will include round of 16 matches in all singles divisions and quarterfinal contests in most. The remainder of the singles quarterfinals and all semifinals will take place on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
