2/15/2025 5:16:00 PM

Box Score Senior guard Alex Knight drilled his signature floater off the backboard with three seconds remaining for the game-winner to give the Lake Forest men's basketball team a 78-76 win Saturday over Illinois College.

Trailing by four with 45 seconds left, the Foresters (11-12, 8-6 MWC) buckled down on defense to give themselves a chance. Knight drew a foul and made both free throws to pull within two, then Coltrane Marchand picked up a steal and took it all the way for a layup to tie the game at 76 with just 30 seconds remaining.

Lake Forest's relentless defense didn't let up, as senior Elijah Bull stole the ball on the ensuing possession to give the Foresters possession and give Knight a chance to be the hero and hit the game-winner.

On a day where he and the other Foresters seniors were honored pregame, Knight ended the game with 24 points and six rebounds; he displayed a diverse offensive arsenal by making 2-of-3 three-pointers and was efficient at the charity stripe by making 6-for-8 free throws. Marchand battled foul trouble but reached double figures with 15 points and made 3-of-6 three-point attempts.

Lake Forest shot 43.8 percent from the field for the game and made 9-of-26 (34.6 percent) of its three-point attempts. The Foresters were also well above their season average shooting free throws, making 13-of-17 (76.5 percent) on the game.

In the first half, the Foresters utilized a 14-0 run in less than three minutes to take an early lead. Lake Forest drained six shots in a row, including four consecutive makes from Knight. The Foresters would not be able to pull away, however, as Illinois College made a scorching 55.2 percent of its field goals in the first half and went into intermission with a 40-38 lead.

The Foresters will play their final home game of the season as they push for a MWC tournament bid on Wednesday against Ripon at 7:30 p.m.
