Senior forward
Jared Gerger's goal with just 7.3 seconds on the clock gave the Lake Forest College men's hockey team a 5-4 victory at the University of Dubuque on Saturday.
The teams alternated goals throughout regulation and the Foresters never led until the game was over.
Junior forward
Chase Freiermuth started the scoring for the visitors six-and-a-half minutes into the contest, tying the score at one. It was his eighth goal of the season and seventh in the last three weekends.
Fifth-year defenseman
Connor Scahill tied the score at two with 3:28 to play in the opening period and his second of the game and fifth this year made it 3-3 at 8:34 in the second. Both goals came on the power play and Lake Forest was 2-for-4 on the afternoon with a Spartan in the penalty box.
The home team led 4-3 going into the third but senior defenseman
Ryan Antonakis tied the score again with 3:37 remaining in the period. His second of the year sent the Foresters to overtime for the third time this season.
The five-minute extra period was nearly complete when Gerger netted his seventh score of the season and the 31st of his career. Senior defenseman
Matteas Derraugh was credited with his second assist of the game and team-high 13th this year.
Senior forward
Griffen Sanom and junior forward
Logan Kittleson also had two assists apiece in the contest.
Lake Forest senior goaltender
Bobby McCloskey made 20 saves on the day and turned away 46 of 50 shots on goal in the series.
The victory raised the Foresters overall record to 9-11-1 and the team is now 5-8-1 and in sixth place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. Dubuque fell to 1-17-3 overall and 1-11-2 in the league.
Lake Forest will host St. Norbert College, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, next weekend. The teams will face off in the opener Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday's Alumni Day contest will begin at 4:00 p.m. The Foresters' Peter Taylor Award will be presented between the first two periods of game two.
