The Lake Forest College track and field teams traveled just north of the state line for the season-opening Forever Red Alumni Classic at Carthage College on Saturday.
Junior
Sophie Graham turned in the Foresters' only victory at the meet, taking the women's mile in 5:44.06 to win by more than five seconds.
Runner-up finishes were posted by juniors
Austin Hewes and
Ollie Francis in the men's 800m and 300m. Hewes completed four laps around the track in 2:06.91 while Francis was just .08 seconds behind the winner with a time of 37.01 seconds.
Sophomore
Alex Pavlov joined Francis in the 300m, where he was fourth in 37.47 and he took the same place in the 200m and now ranks second in program history in the event with a time of 23.53 seconds.
Saturday's meet also produced the program's second-fastest women's 200m runner in junior
Zoe Pavlu, who finished seventh in 28.04 seconds. Sophomore
Farah Tawfik moved up a spot to fourth in team annals in the same event with a time of 28.86 seconds.
Additional third-place finishes for the Forester men came from junior
Payton Ross in the 55m hurdles (8.13 seconds) and sophomore
Trey Schoaf in the shot put (12.69m/41' 7.25").
On the women's side, sophomore
Zahra Tait broke her own school record in the triple jump with a mark of 9.32m (30' 7").
The meet was Lake Forest's only competition of the fall semester. The team's next event will be the Lake Michigan Open at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on January 31.
