The Lake Forest women's basketball team could not sustain its hot shooting from early in the game, as the Foresters fell to Ripon College 76-47 in Midwest Conference play on the road Friday.
Â
Ariana Ferreira-Torralba led Lake Forest (2-7, 0-2 MWC) with 13 points and five rebounds. The sophomore was extremely efficient from the field, shooting 4-of-5 from the field, including 2-of-3 from the three-point line, and made all three of her free-throw attempts.
Â
Emma Hart chipped in 12 points, and her long-range shooting was dialed in, as the sophomore made 3-of-3 three-point attempts on the day.
Â
Lake Forest shot 39.5 percent from the field for the game, however, the Foresters thrived from behind the three-point line by making 8-of-19 attempts (42.1 percent).
Â
The turnover battle and the rebounding margin were two elements that doomed the Foresters on the road. Lake Forest committed a season-high 35 turnovers and also allowed Ripon to collect 31 offensive rebounds, leading to 23 second-chance points for the Red Hawks. Despite holding Ripon to 35.9 percent shooting, the Red Hawks attempted 40 more field goals than the Foresters for the game.Â
Â
Lake Forest's offense centered around its perimeter shooting to start off the game. The Foresters were scalding hot from the three-point line, making 4-of-6 attempts from downtown in the first quarter.
Â
Hart and Ferreira-Torralba did most of the damage for the Foresters, combined for 17 of the 20 points for Lake Forest in the opening quarter. The pair did not miss a shot from the field in the frame, combining to shoot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, as the Foresters trailed just 23-21 at the end of the first quarter.
Â
The Foresters then scored just 13 points across the second and third quarters combined, as Ripon turned up the pressure on both ends to extend its lead. Â
Lake Forest's next contest will be in the Wartburg Holiday Tournament. The Foresters will take on the tournament hosts, Wartburg College, at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29.
