Foresters Defeat Blackburn at Webster Tip-Off Classic

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team registered its first victory of 2025-26, defeating Blackburn College 80-67 on day two of the Webster Tip-Off Classic.

Forester senior guard Jamie Springstead and juniors guards Mia deGrasse and Anika Kinnear shared the team lead with 13 points apiece while sophomore guard Emma Hart also reached double figures with 10. The point totals for the latter three players were career highs.

Senior forward Sara Mills led Lake Forest with a career-high 10 rebounds and was named to the Webster Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team. She also scored nine points and dished out four assists in the game.

Addition team-high performances included junior guard Careah Baitlon's six assists and sophomore guard Ariana Ferreira-Torralba's four steals.

The Foresters shot 44.1 percent from the field and had a commanding 50-37 edge in rebounds.

Blackburn out-scored Lake Forest 9-3 in the game's first three minutes but the Foresters rattled off the next 10 points and led by 10 (22-12) at the end of the first quarter. The Beavers, however, closed to within six at 40-34 by halftime and trailed by just three early in the third.

An 11-4 run by the Foresters gave them a double-digit lead and they were ahead by 10 (58-48) again with a quarter to play. Blackburn got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Lake Forest went 1-1 at the season-opening event and will compete in Wheaton College's Beth Baker Classic next Friday and Saturday.
