The Lake Forest women's volleyball team welcomed the University of Chicago to the Sports and Recreation Center Friday night for a non-conference match-up.
Freshman
Rio Dirksen hammered home a kill to give the Foresters a 2-0 lead right out of the gate. The teams traded points and were all squared up at eight before the Maroons went on a 4-0 run. Lake Forest scored three of the next four points to cut the deficit to two at 13-11. That would be the closest the Foresters would get, as Chicago took control and cruised to a 25-16 set win.
Set two started the same as the first as the home team captured the first two points. After a Dirksen kill cut the Chicago lead to 10-8, the visitors dominated the rest of the set. They scored 15 of the next 19 points to take the set 25-12.
The Maroons never trailed in set three. Already leading 6-3, they went on a 5-0 run and continued to pull away, taking the set 25-10.
Junior
Meghan Winston led the Foresters on the night with six kills while senior
Ireland Van Stone recorded nine digs.
Lake Forest (4-16, 1-6 MWC) will close out the season tomorrow at home at 1:00 against Knox College. It will be Senior Day and the team will honor Van Stone and
Lilli Evans before their final career match
