Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Three Comebacks Not Enough in Series Opener with Concordia Wisconsin

The Forester men's hockey team tied the game three times but ultimately fell 7-4 to Concordia University at home Friday night.

Lake Forest trailed 2-0 when sophomore forward Johnny Mead's third goal of the season closed out the scoring in the opening period. Both teams put a dozen shots on goal in the game's first 20 minutes and Concordia Wisconsin led 2-1 at the first intermission.

Both teams scored twice in the second, beginning with Forester senior forward Colin Bella's fourth of the year at the 2:40 mark. The Falcons regained the lead just 65 seconds later but the Lake Forest pulled even again when sophomore forward Max Jaldung struck at the 9:55 mark with senior forwards Chase Freiermuth and Logan Kittleson assisting. This time just 61 seconds passed before the visitors went ahead and the score remained 3-2 for the rest of the period, despite the home team having a 15-14 advantage in shots in that frame.

The Foresters' fourth goal of the contest was also scored by Jaldung and assisted by Freiermuth and Kittleson and it once again tied the game just 41 seconds into the third and final period. The battle to take the lead for good was finally won by Concordia Wisconsin with 6:42 to play in the contest. The Falcons added to their lead with 2:10 on the clock and tacked on an empty net goal 34 seconds later to secure the victory.

Lake Forest finished the night with a slight 41-38 advantage in shots but did not come out on top on the scoreboard.

The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 2-4-1 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 2-3-0 while Concordia Wisconsin improved to 3-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the league.

The teams will face off again in Mequon, Wisconsin, Saturday night at 7:00.
