The Lake Forest College men's hockey team defeated Lawrence University 3-1 at home Saturday night.
The home team struck first when sophomore forward
Johnny Mead netted his second of the season at the 5:48 mark of the opening period. Freshman forward
Christopher O'Flaherty doubled the margin with his team-high fourth of the year at 15:36 and the Foresters went into the locker room after 20 minutes of play leading 2-0.
After recording an assist on O'Flaherty's goal, freshman defenseman
Luke Lizak scored for the First time as a Forester at 4:47 in the second.
The Foresters appeared to be on their way to a lopsided victory but they would not score again on the night. The Vikings pulled their goalie with 4:07 remaining and the move paid off with an extra attacker goal just 12 seconds later. The comeback bid stopped there, however, as Lake Forest hung on for the victory.
Lake Forest is now 2-3-1 overall and 2-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this winter. Lawrence fell to 1-5-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the league.
The Foresters will take on Concordia University Wisconsin next weekend with the teams facing off in Lake Forest Friday night at 7:00 and in Mequon, Wisconsin, at the same time on Saturday.
