The Lake Forest College women's tennis team defeated Ripon College and Lawrence University 7-0 on Saturday to remain perfect in conference play.
The Foresters' first sweep of the day began with freshman
Anya Mookencherry and sophomore
Avelynn Wen rolling 6-1 at #1 doubles and juniors
Kate Feist and
Anika Kinnear tripling up their opponents 6-2 at #2. With the doubles point already secured, senior
Olivia Pandazi and junior
Mara Shere added a 6-4 triumph at #3.
With the team's top two players sitting out, Lake Forest still won all six singles matches, beginning with Wen preventing her opponent at #2 from taking even one game. Feist was nearly as dominant in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #3 and Kinnear' 6-0, 6-4 win at #4 clinched the match. Mookencherry came out on top 6-3, 6-4 at the top spot in the lineup, Shere prevailed 6-2, 6-3 at #6, and Pandazi's 6-0, 6-4 victory at #5 closed out the contest.
Lake Forest welcomed Lawrence to campus a few hours later and the results were similar. Sophomore
Lilli Dockal joined the lineup and teamed up with Mookencherry on a 6-0 rout of the Vikings' top doubles team. Kinnear and Shere rolled 6-1 at #3 and Wen and Feist won 6-4 at #2.
Mookencherry dropped just one game in her victory at #2 singles and Dockal took the first set 6-3 and the second 6-1 at #1. Wen provided the clinching point by winning both sets 6-1 at #3 and Feist finished off a 7-5, 6-2 triumph at #4. Kinnear came out on top 6-0, 6-4 at #5 and the long day finally ended when Pandazi closed out her 6-3, 7-5 victory at #6.
The Foresters improved to 8-1 overall on the season and they remained perfect in the Midwest Conference after four league matches. Ripon fell to 1-9 and Lawrence to 2-6. Both are winless in league play after three contests.
