Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Lake Forest Splits on Saturday, Finishes MWC Schedule 5-1

The Forester women's tennis team fell 6-1 at Grinnell College before prevailing 7-0 at Cornell College on Saturday.

The loss at Grinnell was the only blemish on Lake Forest's Midwest Conference schedule this fall and began with the Pioneers taking all three doubles matches.

The home team also won in straight sets at each of the bottom four spots in the lineup. Sophomore Lilli Dockal earned the Foresters' only point of the match with her 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 triumph at #2 while junior Sofia Strupovets was edged out 6-7, 6-1, (10-8) at #1.

Strupovets and Dockal started the match at Cornell byt tripling up the Rams' top tandem 6-2 and the Foresters secured the doubles point when freshman Anya Mookencherry and sophomore Avelynn Wen finished off a 6-4 victory at #2.

Lake Forest made it a clean sweep in singles. After dropping the first set 6-1, Strupovets took the second 6-3 and the third 6-1 to win at #1 while Dockal did not drop a game at #2. Mookencherry came out on top 7-5, 6-3 at #3 while Wen and junior Kate Feist turned in more convincing 6-0, 6-2 victories at #4 and #5, respectively. Junior Anika Kinnear closed things out  with a grueling 7-5, 5-7, (10-4) win at #6.

The Foresters are now 9-2 overall this season and they finished 5-1 in the MWC. Grinnell improved to 5-0 overall and in the league while Cornell fell to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

All three teams will join the other four in next weekend's MWC Individual Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin, next weekend. It will be the final event of the fall portion of the 2025-26 season for Lake Forest.
