The Lake Forest College women's volleyball team hosted the Grinnell College Pioneers to begin its Midwest Conference schedule Friday night but was defeated in three sets.
The Foresters came out hot and were ahead 8-5 in set one. Grinnell, however, responded with a 9-0 run to take control of the set. The visitors continued to pull away and eventually closed it out 25-17. Lake Forest senior
Ireland Van Stone recorded three kills in the set.
The teams battled back and forth and were tied 10 apiece in set two before the Pioneers went on a 7-0 run to once again pull out to a commanding lead. They closed it out by a score of 25-16 and took a two-set lead.
In the final set Grinnell led 15-13 before beginning another dominant run. The Pioneers won 10 of the next 13 points to finish off the set and clinch the match.
Van Stone finished the match as the team leader in kills with seven while junior
Meghan Winston had four kills and a team high 14 digs for Lake Forest.
The Foresters fell to 2-9 overall while Grinnell improved to 6-10.
Lake Forest will return to the court tomorrow at 1:00 and welcome the Buccaneers of Beloit College to the Lake Forest Sports and Recreation Center.
