Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lake Forest Unable to Complete Second Comeback at St. Olaf

The Forester men's hockey team erased one two-goal deficit but not quite a second in a 4-3 loss at St. Olaf College Friday night.

The Oles jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the game's first 11 minutes but Lake Forest pulled back to within one at the 17:29 mark on freshman forward Trevor Faucher's sixth goal of the season.

The score remained 2-1 in favor of the home team until Forester senior forward Jared Gerger tied the score with just 52.9 seconds remaining in the second. Junior forward Colin Bella earned his second assist of the night on Gerger's third tally of the year.

The only power play goal of the game gave St. Olaf the lead for good at the 2:47 mark of the third. The home team added what turned out to ne the official game-winner with 2:21 to play.

The Foresters pulled their goaltender in favor of an extra attacker with 1:12 to play and, a minute later, the fifth goal of the season for junior forward Justin Ross made it a one-goal game with 12.6 seconds on the clock. The visitors were able to put one more shot on goal but time ran out on their second comeback attempt of the night.

The Oles had a slight 27-24 edge in shots on goal and both teams had a pair of power play opportunities in the contest.

The non-conference loss dropped Lake Forest's overall record on the season to 4-6-1 while St. Olaf improved to 5-4-1.

The Foresters will continue their trip to Minnestoa with a 4:00 p.m. game at St. John's University on Saturday.
