The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 7-1 in the weekend series finale at Trine University on Saturday.
The Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period but the margin was cut in half late in the second when Forester junior forward
Chase Freiermuth extended his goal streak to four games. His sixth score of the season came on the power play and was set up by senior forward
Griffen Sanom and fifth-year defenseman
Connor Scahill.
Lake Forest finished the day 1-for-6 on the power play while Trine was 0-for-4.
Leading 2-1 after the first two periods, the nation's fifth-ranked team erupted for five goals in the last to secure the victory. The Thunder out-shot the visitors 48-18 in the contest.
The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 7-11-1 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 3-8-1. Trine improved to 16-2-1 overall and remained atop the NCHA standings at 10-1-1 in the league.
Lake Forest will travel to the University of Dubuque next weekend.
