Foresters Cruise to Victory Over Beloit

The Lake Forest men's basketball team hit the ground running to start Wednesday's game against Beloit College and never looked back in an 83-63 win at the Sports and Recreation Center.

The Foresters (7-10, 4-4 MWC) were led by junior sharpshooter Alex Forowycz and senior guard Alex Knight. Forowycz, the conference's leader in three-point percentage, did damage from both inside and outside the arc with three three-pointers on an efficient 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Knight kept Beloit at an arm's length throughout the second half by scoring 15 of his 22 points after halftime.

Lake Forest came out of the gates hot shooting the ball and took an early lead. The Foresters shot 53.3 percent from the field in the first half, led by Forowycz's 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting. The Lake Forest lead ballooned to as many as 16 points in the first half, after Knight skied for a defensive rebound and took it coast-to-coast for a layup with just over a minute until halftime.

Lake Forest emphasized pushing the pace in the opening frame and outscored the Buccaneers 10-0 in fast-break points in the first half. In addition, the Foresters' outside shooting made the difference, as Lake Forest outscored Beloit by 18 points from the three-point line for the game.

The Foresters made it tough for Beloit's offense to find a groove, limiting the Buccaneers to 36.1 percent shooting in the opening half and just 37.9 percent for the game. Beloit shot just 3-of-16 from three-point range.

The visitors usually find easy points on the offensive glass, as Beloit came into Wednesday's contest ranked second in the conference in offensive rebounds; however, the Foresters cleaned the glass and limited Beloit to eight offensive rebounds and just four second-chance points.

Lake Forest will be back in action at home Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Sports and Recreation Center against Knox College.
