The Lake Forest men's basketball team leaned on one of the best shooters in the conference to bring home a win over Knox College on Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center, 86-79.
Junior
Alex Forowycz, the Midwest Conference leader in three-point percentage, led Lake Forest with 28 points and made 6-of-9 of his three-point attempts. Senior
Alex Knight contributed 16 points, and
Cristian Rodriguez added 14 points and seven rebounds. Guard
Elijah Bull filled the box score with eight points, eight assists and three steals in a game-high 37 minutes.
Forowycz caught fire after halftime to spark the Foresters. After just one made field goal in the first half, Forowycz made all five of his three-point attempts in the second half, with three of them coming in the first five minutes after halftime. His six made three-pointers for the game tied a season high and were one off his career high for threes made in a game.
Lake Forest led the entire second half, but Knox would cut the lead to as little as two points with under two minutes remaining. Wing
Coltrane Marchand hit a free throw to push the lead to 81-78, then Forowycz put back an offensive rebound for a layup off a steal from Bull with 42 seconds left to increase the Lake Forest advantage to five.
Lake Forest shot 45.2 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from the three-point line as a team. Saturday marked the fifth time this season that the Foresters have hit at least 10 three-pointers.
Neither team could get into much of a rhythm in a herky-jerky first half. The teams combined for 28 fouls and 37 free-throw attempts in the first half; Lake Forest shot just 57.1 percent from the free-throw line, while Knox made 81.3 percent of its free throws before halftime.
Lake Forest earned a significant amount of offense in the first half via second-chance points. The Foresters converted six offensive rebounds into 14 second-chance points to go into halftime with the score tied at 44.
Lake Forest will look to complete a sweep of its three-game homestand Tuesday night against Monmouth College at 7:30 p.m.
