Foresters Defeat Nation's Sixth-Ranked Team

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team hosted and defeated Adrian College, the sixth-ranked team in the nation, 5-2 Friday night.

Forester junior goaltender Dylan Kruss was stellar in goal, stopping 38 of the Bulldogs' 40 shots on goal, including 17 of 18 in the final period.

Kruss kept the visitors off the scoreboard throughout the opening period while his team scored twice. Freshmen forward Trevor Faucher took advantage of a breakaway opportunity at the 9:42 mark, lifting a shot into the top of the goal and sending the goalie's water bottle to the ice. It was Faucher's team-high eighth goal of the season.

The lead doubled on a power play goal from junior forward Chase Freiermuth with 3:18 remaining in the period.

After setting up Freiermuth's second, fellow junior forward Logan Kittleson scored to make it a 3-0 game six minutes into the second period. Freiermuth earned the first of his two assists in the contest and both players now have a pair of scores on the year.

Adrian converted a power play opportunity a minute-and-a-half minutes later but the three-goal cushion was restored at the 18:34 mark on senior defenseman Hardy Wagner's first goal of the season.

Already ahead 4-1 going into the final period, the Foresters added to their lead with a short-handed score from senior forward Connor Tartaglione at 8:40. It was Tartaglione's first tally of the year and first career short-handed goal.

The teams combined for 10 penalties but were a collective 0-for-6 on the power play in the third period. Both teams killed six of seven penalties in the contest.

The visitors raised Lake Forest's overall record this season to 7-8-1 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 3-5-1. Adrian fell to 12-4-0 overall and 6-3-0 in the league.

The Foresters and Bulldogs will face off again in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Satuday at 4:00 p.m.
