Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Foresters' Top Players Reach Round of 16 in Singles and Doubles at ITA Regional Tournament

Four members of the Lake Forest College women's tennis team traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the Intercollegiat Tennis Association Regional Tournament over the weekend.

The Foresters' top two singles players outplayed their seeds and reached the event's round of 16.

Sophomore Sofia Strupovets was tabbed one of the top 32 players at the event and received a bye in the round of 128. After rolling 6-0, 6-1 in the next round, she faced a top-16 seed in the round of 32. Strupovets took the first set 6-2 but dropped the second 6-4. She then came out on top 10-8 in the third set super tiebreaker to advance.

Freshman Lilli Dockal began the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the opening round and took both sets 6-4 in her next match. Like Strupovets, she faced a top-16 seed in the third round and came away with a 7-5, 7-5 victory. Dockal was the only unseeded (outside the top 32) player at the event to reach the round of 16.

Dockal was eventually eliminated by the tournament's #3 seed and Strupovets by the #4 seed.

Strupovets and Dockal also advanced to the round of 16 in doubles. After an opening round bye, they doubled up their opponents 8-4 in the round of 32 before falling by the same score.

Senior Margaret Bugnacki also had a notable performance at the event. Her 6-4, 6-2 opening round victory was her 11th consecutive singles victory, matching the sixth-longest run in program history. Bugnacki also also earned a pair of victories with sophomore Kate Feist in the doubles consolation bracket.

The Foresters will resume duel match play with Midwest Conference contests at Monmouth College (9:00 a.m.) and Illinois College (3:00 p.m.) next Saturday.
