Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Foresters Post Victories at Monmouth and Illinois College

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team began Saturday with a 6-1 victory at Monmouth College in the morning and closed it out with a 4-3 triumph at Illinois College in the afternoon.

The Foresters' top three players were each a perfect 4-0 on the day.

Sophomore Sofia Strupovets and freshman Lilli Dockal played at the top of the doubles lineup, where they prevailed 6-1 at Monmouth and 6-2 at Illinois College. Strupovets also defeated both opponents' best players in singles, winning 6-2, 6-1 in the morning and 6-0, 6-1 later in the day. Dockal came out on top 6-1, 6-3 at Monmouth and reversed those set scores in her #2 singles victory at Illinois College.

Senior Margaret Bugnacki and sophomore Anika Kinnear rolled 6-1 in their first match at #2 doubles and 6-0 in the second. Bugnacki also dominated at #3 singles, where she dropped just one game in the two matches combined. Bugnacki raised her career win total to 132, surpassing current Forester Assistant Coach Tyranny Miller for sixth place in program history.

Additional Forester victories at Monmouth came from senior Emily Bross and sophomore Olivia Pandazi (7-5) at #3 doubles, Kinnear in convincing fashion (6-0, 6-1) at #4 singles, and Bross by a narrow margin (6-1, 7-6 (8-6)) at #6 singles.

The victories extended Lake Forest's season-opening winning streak to eight matches, tying the seventh-longest run in team history. Monmouth fell to 1-8 and Illinois College to 11-5.

The Foresters will put their winning streak and 4-0 Midwest Conference record on the line next Saturday when they host Cornell College at 9:00 in the morning and Grinnell College at 3:00 p.m.
