The Forester men's soccer team opened Midwest Conference play with a 3-3 draw at Grinnell College on Saturday.
Both teams staged dramatic comebacks in the contest.
Lake Forest jumped out to a two-goal lead thanks to tallies from senior
Ahmed Abdelhamed and sophomore
Nico Lomanto. Abdelhamed kicked in the loose ball after junior
Gio Diaz's shot was deflected away by the Pioneer goalkeeper in the 27th minute. Lomanto also took advantage of a loose ball sent his way off the foot of a Grinnell defender and saw his shot sail over the right arm of the goal ind into the next at the 33:15 mark. Both players now have a pair of goals on the year.
Momentum shifted when the home team struck with just 37 seconds to play in the first half and the Pioneers netted two more scores in the first 21 minutes of the second.
Lake Forest threatened several time late in the contest and finally tied the game with just 55 seconds on the clock. It was another rebound goal as a shot from senior
Eric Rodriguez from the top of the box was saved but classmate
Arsene Uwamba was there to kick it back in for his first score of the season.
The Foresters had a slight 15-14 edge in shots in the contest and put nine of those attempts on goal to the Pioneers' five. Lake Forest also created seven corner kick opportunities while Grinnell had five and the visitors accounted for just five of the contest's 18 fouls.
Lake Forest is now 1-6-3 and Grinnell 2-3-4 overall this season.
The Foresters will continue league play against visiting Ripon College next Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
